Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee Scholarship Award Program

Dependents of Illinois law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty are eligible to receive scholarships from the Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee.

Scholarships can be applied for on an annual basis. All dependents of Illinois law enforcement officers that have died in the line of duty, regardless of End of Watch date, are eligible. Approval of applications will not be based upon sex, age, gender, race, creed, national origin, or religious preference, or restricted based upon the applicant’s field of endeavor. The criteria to be used in granting scholarships may include but are not limited to: academic achievement, financial need, school activities, and community service.

Scholarship applications must be received by the Committee by March 1, 2022.

Award Criteria

  1. Scholarship recipients must be a survivor of a law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty and included/approved for inclusion on the Illinois Police Officers Memorial Monument. Eligible survivors are:
    • Spouses (Legal spouse at time of death)
    • Children: legally dependent biological, foster, step, and adopted children at time of death. (No age limit as long as all other qualifications are met).
  2. Students must be enrolled in, at a minimum, the fall semester of the forthcoming school year in a qualified program.
  3. Qualified Programs:
    1. Accredited Vocational/Trade/Tech Schools
    2. Accredited Undergraduate Programs
    3. Accredited Graduate Programs
  4. Completed application must be received by the Committee prior to the deadline.
  5. Faculty Member Recommendation must be received by the Committee prior to the deadline
  6. Applicants must provide a sealed transcript of the previous semester prior to the deadline and must have maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
  7. Applicants must provide a copy of their current class schedule or official notification of acceptance prior to the deadline.
  8. Scholarship funds will be spent for educational expenses that are determined by the educational institution.
  9. Award winners may reapply annually.

Procedure for Selection

All applications will be collected, screened for eligibility, and reviewed by the Illinois Police Officers Memorial Scholarship Subcommittee. The Scholarship Subcommittee will use all available resources to verify eligibility. A vote will take place among the full Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee to determine the recipient(s). The winning recipient(s) will be notified by mail and announced at the Annual Survivor’s Reception.
