The Illinois Police Officers Committee was incorporated in May of 1987. The Memorial Statue, which sits on the West Lawn of the State Capital, was built in 1990 and dedicated on October 29th, 1990. In 2021 a $500,000 renovation of the Memorial Site was completed. The newly renovated Memorial Site was re-dedicated on May 6, 2021. The Memorial is self-supported and has never been funded by tax payer funds.
